 What is Sea Moss?

Sea Moss, aka Irish Sea Moss, is a type of sea vegetable grown along the rocky shores of the Atlantic and Caribbean oceans. Sea moss is a generic term for a species of red algae or seaweed and has numerous health benefits. Sea Moss contains 92 of the 102 minerals that our bodies need. It is a powerhouse superfood for healing and immune boosting. Many people experience a noticeable difference with Sea Moss within the first few days.

Where is Bee’s Wellness Sea Moss Sourced?

The source of our sea moss is the pristine waters of the Caribbean Sea and St. Lucia—local divers hand-harvest, clean, and sun-dry the sea moss before packaging. There is no other human intervention or use of chemicals and pesticides. Waters are also monitored and routinely tested.

How do you use Sea Moss gel?

We process our sea moss into a gel. It may be consumed, added to a favorite health beverage, or applied topically in this form. Sea Moss gel can also be used as a salad dressing, dip for fruit, face mask, hair mask, or vegan thickening agent when cooking soups or stews.

How long does Sea Moss last?

Sea Moss has a shelf life of approximately 3-4 weeks. Please use care to avoid cross-contamination. Do not re-dip a spoon into the jar after placing it in your mouth. Sea Moss is not intended to be stored but rather to be consumed. Signs of spoilage include an old pungent aroma, or you will see a mold coating on the top layer. If you find mold or suspect spoilage, please discontinue use.

Can you freeze Sea Moss?

Yes, freezing your Sea Moss gel can dramatically extend the shelf life from three weeks to three months. If you have a lot of Sea Moss gel and are worried about spoiling, we recommend scooping the sea moss into ice cube trays and freezing it. Sea Moss ice cubes are convenient and easy to add to your smoothies, soups, or hot teas. You can even rub them on your face in the mornings to help reduce puffiness, shrink your pores and brighten your skin.

Which minerals does sea moss contain?

Some of the minerals that sea moss contains are zinc, iodine, iron, calcium, potassium, B complex, vitamins, sodium-sulfur, and silicon. It is an excellent source of dietary fiber, vitamin K, copper riboflavin, folate, magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, protein, beta carotene, B vitamins, pectin, taurine, and vitamin C. These are all essential nutrients to support and maintain healthy bodily functions.

All of my sea moss gel spoiled before the two weeks?

Avoiding cross-contamination and proper refrigeration is imperative to maintain the life of your gel. A fridge should be about 37 degrees. Remember that older, overfilled fridges are harder to keep at a set temperature!

Is there research to confirm these products are safe to consume?

Studies and information from NIH confirm sea moss/seaweed is safe to consume. We have included one of many studies done on this topic.

Can I take this product pregnant?

We always recommend you consult your primary care physician before consuming while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Does sea moss gel need to be refrigerated?

Yes. However, if your sea moss becomes warm before getting home, do not worry. Sea moss is a gelatinous rock that does not age like typical food. For best results and optimal consistency, refrigerate overnight before opening and keep refrigerated between uses.

Are there any contraindications to taking sea moss?

We recommend you consult your primary care physician before starting a new product. You should avoid using sea moss if you have a thyroid disorder, are on blood thinners, or have a sulfur or shellfish allergy.

Can sea moss cause heart problems?

Seaweed, including sea moss, is one of the best plant sources of omega-3 fatty acids, essential for health, especially for the heart and cardiovascular system. Studies suggest that seaweed may improve cholesterol balance and act as a blood thinner, reducing the risk of heart disease.

Does sea moss interact with medications?

Sea moss may interact with blood-thinning medications, as well as thyroid medication. If you take any blood-thinning or thyroid medication, consult your primary care physician before consuming sea moss.

How should I maintain my glass jar?

Make sure to keep the lid tightly sealed when not in use. Keep the top portion of the jar clean by wiping it with a towel should you see sea moss along the rim. Also, keep your lid clean and free from the gel. Do not cross-contaminate by double-dipping your spoon.
